Unique textured and sculptural ceramic orb inspired by the Yorkshire Dales. Fired to 1200'C in electric kiln. Unglazed ceramic, so this piece will not hold liquids.

My wheel-thrown ceramics are inspired by my love of nature, the countryside and the beauty of its many textures; cracked limestone pavements, tree bark and dry exposed peat are reflected in the surface patterns of my work. The uplands have always held a fascination, as wild and desolate places in the winter, which come alive again in spring and summer as the curlews and lapwings return to nest. I use a finely grogged clay which gives a wonderful feel to the finished piece, and compliments the deeply cracked textures created on the outside with sodium silicate solution. This technique always affects the pot's texture in a different way, so each piece is ultimately unique. These orbs look great on their own or in groups of 3 different sizes.

For me it’s all about texture – you have to feel it to fully appreciate it.

I love the feel of clay when throwing, and enjoy the rhythm of the wheel. Throwing also demands a focus that concentrates the mind and blocks out other distractions, which I find is calming in an ever more hectic world.
